Having people calling you "Doctor", even if you're a nobody, and then not calling anyone else "Mr.", or "Sir", or anything like that, whatever they might do
Not being a racist, unless they're gypsys
Driving like a maniac, and having no-one care about it
Criticising the government, but never officially complain
Cleaning the wax out of your ears using the car's key, or pen's cap
Baptizing your children, and having them going to catholic teaching, without you ever going to mass
Ladies' night every Thursday
Decoring the living room's furniture with wedding gifts
Travelling anywhere in the world, and always find another Portuguese guy at some restaurant
Going to the beach, and taking chicken and rice
Keeping those old undies to polish the car with
Every year having students complaining about the fees
Nobody knowing anything about our country apart from Brasilians and Spanish, and those only mock it
Being the last in all lists and indicators, but still being the most relaxed in Europe
Always having cheap seafood, cigarettes, and alcohol
Having a visitor and showing the whole place
Flashing the car's lights to warn the other drivers the police's ahead
Having the rest of the World thinking Portugal is part of Spain
Spend the whole Sunday walking around at a mall
Killing the language, writing like "dix"
Having gone to a fortune teller
Not walking. Driving everywhere, no matter what
Hearing Brasilians telling jokes about us, but only telling jokes about ourselves
Having your mom or grandma still wearing black because of someone who died ages ago
Going to Fátima with your family at least once a year
Living with your parents until you're 30
Light up a cigarette anytime, anywhere, not giving a damn about others
Having a moustache, and being short (women too)
Always drive on the left lane, on the highway
Having 3 cell phones
Swearing you're not going to buy Spanish olive oil, even if most of the one for sale is
Recording the soap opera
Going to watch football, buying the cheapest ticket, and trying to sneak to a more expensive seat
Spending a fortune with your cell phones, but then complaining about the dentist's price
Always going to the Algarve in August
How i just love my country...
Also, if you want to see all that proven to you, go to [link] .. it literally means "Portugal at its best", and it's got loads of ridiculous pictures taken in Portugal.. it's in Portuguese, but there's a bar under each picture that you can scroll to access pictures..
Eheh, really, you don't know what you're missing!..
I've update the post and included a website, check it out, if you want to see even more stupid things about my country... i still love it, though..
-- The point of quotations is that one can use another's words to be insulting...
Wow!
I certainly love learning about different countries - even if there's some things about it which I oppose to.
I love how everybody and everything has to be different - it opens our eyes and teaches us that little bit extra.
Your country sounds so wonderful and so "strong".
"Light up a cigarette anytime, anywhere, not giving a damn about others"
I like the personal reference there.. I do sometimes feel we all need consideration to each other, but, sometimes, I love the fact that we need to "ignore" other people, and be who we want to be..
The rules of your country, sound fantastic.. I'm going to favourite this page, thank you so very very much for writing it!
